Former TDB member arrested in Sabarimala gold theft case

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SIT probing the Sabarimala gold theft cases arrested former Travancore Devaswom Board member N Vijayakumar for allegedly fabricating documents and aiding in the heist.

The SIT remand report filed before the Kollam court accused Vijayakumar of conniving with former TDB president A Padmakumar to fabricate documents by marking the gold-sheeted copper plates as mere copper plates. He was also involved in taking the decision to hand over the gold-plated sheets to main accused Unnikrishnan Potti under the pretext of renovation works, the report said. Padmakumar is currently in judicial custody,

Vijayakumar, a TDB member in 2019, was arrested after he turned up at the SIT office at Eachakkal. He had moved an anticipatory bail plea before the Kollam vigilance court, but withdrew it later, sources said, adding that he told the sleuths he was innocent.

As per the SIT, the gold-covered copper plates were mentioned as copper plates to hoodwink investigators in case of any future inquiry. The Kollam Vigilance Court remanded Vijayakumar in judicial custody.
