KOCHI: Following sexual assault allegations and arrest, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) on Wednesday suspended filmmaker Ranjith from the union.

FEFKA general secretary B Unnikrishnan said that the decision was made jointly by the writers’ and directors’ union. “The case and allegations are of a serious nature. We have decided to suspend him. The police are investigating the case, and it is under the court’s consideration. Further decisions will be made later,” he told reporters.

According to him, an actress in a lead role in an ongoing film has raised the complaint. “We have taken her complaint seriously. He is our friend and colleague, and we have concerns about his health condition. But these are two different matters,” he said, adding that the actress is yet to file a complaint with the Internal Complaints Committee.
