Chintha Jerome has been elected as the first woman State President of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) in Kerala. She was elected at the organisation’s 16th State Conference held in Thrissur on Saturday.
DYFI all-India president A A Rahim announced the new state leadership at the conclusion of the conference. M Vijin, MLA from Kalliasseri and former SFI State Secretary, was elected State Secretary, while Adv R Rahul was appointed Treasurer.
Former Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran was also inducted into the DYFI State Secretariat.
Jerome, who hails from Kollam, entered organisational politics through the Students' Federation of India (SFI). She has held several positions in the organisation and previously served as chairperson of the Kerala University Union and the Kerala Youth Commission.
She is currently a member of the DYFI Central Committee and the CPI(M) State Committee. Jerome holds a doctorate in English Literature from the University of Kerala.
Her election marks a significant milestone for the youth organisation, making her the first woman to head the DYFI's Kerala state unit.
