JAJPUR: Around 62 percent of the 12,13,512 electorate exercised their franchise in one Lok Sabha and seven Assembly constituencies in the second phase of polling in Jajpur district yesterday, official sources said.

Polling was by and large peaceful barring some stray incidents. Voters boycott polling in Jagannathpur village under Dasarathapur block. In stray incidents of violence, a dozen of people was injured.

Danagadi BDO was manhandled by the irate mob in Manpur polling station under Sukinda Assembly seat while a DSP was assaulted by the angry villagers in Achutabasanta village under Barachana police limits.

Twelve people were injured in clashes between rival groups at Neulpur, Achuta Basanta, Rahamba, Asiagarh, Bari and Sukinda areas of the district. Polling was disrupted for some hours in different places following technical snag in electronic voting machines.

There were also reports of rigging in some booths in Korei, Dharmasala, Sukinda and Barachana Assembly constituencies. Voting was disrupted in Tulati booth in Korei after police allegedly assaulted a woman inside the booth. Angry electorate boycotted voting for some time demanding stern action against the errant policemen. Polling was also disrupted in two booths of Jajpur Assembly constituency.
