BHUBANESWAR: Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) has become a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

This is a milestone for KIIT, a fiveyear old private varsity, for it has emerged as the youngest member of ACU, established in 1913.

The ACU membership is expected to open a window of opportunities for the varsity to collaborate with its comembers.

Degrees and certificates issued by KIIT University would be recognised by the members. After KIIT’s inclusion, Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT Group of Institutions has been invited by Secretary of ACU to attend a five-day International Assembly to be held in Kuala Lumpur from June 13.

ACU has 500 varsities from 55 countries as its members. The British Queen is its president.

Meanwhile, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), a sister concern of KIIT, has been selected as Regional Centre for Faculty Development Programme by the Medical Council of India (MCI). As a regional centre, KIMS will cater to eastern India in conducting faculty development programme.

Only seven regional centres have been notified by MCI across the country to conduct faculty development programme. KIMS has the distinction of being the only institution from the eastern India and the first ever from Orissa to make it to this list.

The recognition came after a survey by MCI which took into account academic excellence, teaching methods, infrastructure and availability of equipment.

Similarly, KIIT School of Management has been nominated as the Mentor Institution by AICTE for conducting faculty development programme in eastern India.

As a mentor, it will work for development of management education, students motivation and making new information available to the faculty members.
