BHUBANESWAR: Calling for `political prisoner status’ for every arrested person involved in mass movements, Committee for Release of Political Prisoners (CRPP), Orissa, unveiled its four-point charter of demands here today after a day-long convention.

Apart from seeking the `political prisoner status’, the CRPP also said that as projecting the people’s issues in the national and international fora is not a crime, the people in jail on the issue should be released immediately.

It also demanded release of 30 innocent tribals arrested in Sundargarh district, who were falsely termed `Maoists’ by the local police. Supporting the land right issue of the Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha, the State committee also urged the Government and some vested interests not to suppress the movement, adding the organisation must remain united to achieve its goal.

The body also demanded an unbiased probe into the alleged rape charges against the CRPF members engaged in combing operation in Similipal forests.
