BHUBANESWAR: If the first selection cut-off marks for admission into Plus Two increased this year, the second selection percentage has remained high too.

The second selection merit-list was announced by the Department of Higher Education (DHE) here on Thursday. Students who figure in the second list can take admission in the respective colleges on August 16 and 17.  According to the DHE, the cut-off  percentage for Science in BJB Junior College stood at 91.5 per cent whereas for Arts stream, it was 56 per cent.

For Commerce, the second  selection cut-off percentage was 79.17.

Similarly, in Rama Devi Women’s Junior College, the cut-off percentage for Science stream stood at 84.67 per cent followed by 76.83 at GM Junior College, 84.17 at FM Junior College and 84 at Khallikote Junior College. In the Commerce stream, Khallikote Junior College reported a cut-off percentage of 64.83 followed by 58.5 at Rama Devi Women’s Junior College, 57 at GM Junior College and 46 at FM Junior College.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department, in a departure from its earlier announcement, has relaxed norms for candidates who had secured seats in colleges lower in their option list but did  not take admission.  Previously, the Department had declared that candidates who were allotted such seats must enrol in order to avail of better options during the second selection.

“We relaxed the norms since this was the first time such a condition was applied and many students may not have been aware of it,” Higher Education Director Bimal Prasad Nanda said. As many as 6,700 students who figure in the category can avail of better options during admission for the second selection, he added.

There are 3,07,766 seats in junior colleges of the State. In the first selection, intimations were sent out to 2,34,462 candidates whereas 2,12,244 took admission.

For the second selection intimations have been sent to 22,791 students.
