CUTTACK: A police award has been instituted in memory of Bhramarabara Sahu, daring and dutiful police officer, by his son Suresh Chandra Sahu. The award carrying Rs 1 lakh in cash will be presented to a dedicated police officer every year. This was announced at a function organised at Anand Bhawan __ Cuttack home of legendary Biju Patnaik __ recently to mark the 70th remembrance anniversary of Bhramara. Kalindi Behera, MLA, and Sanjib Marik, ADG (Admn and Home Guards) were present.

Bhramara studied in Mission High School with Biju. He undertook a bicycle trip from Cuttack to Peshwar (now in Pakistan) along with friends Biju and Amar Dey in 1932.

Bhramara joined as police sub-inspector and rose to the rank of inspector. In an encounter with dacoits, he was critically wounded in the chest. Then while playing football, the ball hit him at the wounded spot. He was taken to SCB Medical here. After battling for life, the daring cop passed away on September 20, 1941.
