The local administration will on Monday call for an inquiry into the collapse of a portion of Dharanidhar Autonomous College here.
Sources said the matter could not be taken up for inquiry on Saturday as the district administration officials were busy with counting of nominations for ULB polls.
Forty students were injured, five of them critically, as partially-constructed first floor of Dharanidhar College collapsed on Friday. The students who were admitted to Keonjhar Hospital were released on Saturday. When the building collapsed, the students were standing in front of the block.
Following the incident, tension gripped the college premises as the students attacked the supervisor of the construction company Biranchi Swain. They also closed the main gate of the college demanding immediate arrest of the engineer and contractor involved in the construction work. Students also damaged the college property and demanded shifting of administrative block to another place.
Senior police and fire brigade rushed to the college to control the situation. Later, the students staged a demonstration in front of the Collector’s office. The Collector assured them of a high-level technical team inquiry into the matter and appropriate action against the culprit. Sharp construction company was engaged to construct the first floor of the building at a cost of Rs 2.05 crore, Executive Engineer, PWD, Umesh Chandra Mishra said.
