Ravenshaw University on Friday announced cancellation of students’ union elections for 2013-14 academic session even as the campus continued to be tense with groups demanding holding of polls.

Agitating students staged demonstrations on the campus and obstructed entry of Vice-Chancellor Prof BC Tripathy into his office prompting the Staff Council to convene an emergency meeting to review the situation. The Council unanimously resolved that there will be no students’ union election during the current academic session.

If any student or group continues to create disturbance and resort to violence, it will be reported to the police for appropriate action. Any student doing so in future will be suspended for four consecutive semesters, the University authorities warned.

The staff council, however, took into consideration other demands such as waiver of examination and readmission fees for students affected by Phailin and floods and stated that applications will be considered depending on submission of proper evidence. The fines in lieu of late form fill up for end semester examination has been waived.

The University has been in turmoil since September over holding of polls. The authorities had declared sine-die on September 29 which was withdrawn on October 28. However, protests have erupted again.
