Parents of the 25-year-old rape victim of Tarito village under Kishore Nagar police limits on Saturday refused to accept the ex gratia sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Cuttack Collector Girish SN reached the deceased’s house and offered the compensation of `1.5 lakh sanctioned from the Relief Fund to the parents of the victim. However, her parents Trailokya Nath Satapathy and Satya Bhama Satapathy refused to accept the money stating that they were not satisfied with the police investigation and the compensation amount.

They had earlier alleged that police were trying to hush up the case and demanded a compensation of `20 lakh besides a Government job to the girl’s brother Jyoti Ranjan Satapathy.

On Friday, Kishore Nagar police had arrested the prime accused of the case. The 32-year-old accused Durga Prasad Dash alias Babuna was nabbed from Munduli locality in Cuttack district on Thursday night. He belongs to the same village and confessed to the crime.

Babuna, who was unemployed for last eight months, had fallen in love with the girl. When he proposed to marry her, she had turned down the proposal.

On Monday night, while the girl was returning home from Haripur market alone on her bicycle, the accused intercepted her at an isolated place near Khradabana on left embankment of river Mahanadi. When she tried to raise an alarm, Babuna threw her bicycle in a bush and dragged her to the river bed and attempted to rape her. When Babuna could not overpower her, he hit her with a stone on her head. After she lost sense, the accused raped her and then carried her body and threw it into the river.
