Although it is difficult to imagine Beg Borrow Steal’s 10th season on Bindass without the chirpy and talkative Aaliyah Khan, the new host Angira Dhar does pack in quite a punch. The backpacker takes on the challenges of travelling without any resources and attempts to steer her way across 1000 kilometers in Madhya Pradesh from Bhopal to Orchha. The tasks included chores that locals there do everyday like selling milk. Every time she loses a challenge, she has to undergo an arduous mini task. Dhar, who is also an assistant director, shares her favourite moments from the show that was launched last month:
Stepping into her (Aaliyah Khan) shoes was definitely difficult. You ideally want to do your homework and follow the footsteps of the previous host. But my intention was to give the show a fresh approach so I didn’t watch any of the previous seasons. Although the basic format remained the same, the presentation always differs.
In real life I am a very impatient and hyper person, but the show has increased my tolerance and patience level towards life and its chang-ing surroundings. The chal-lenges and tasks have helped me evolve as a better human being.
There have been many experiences I will cherish all my life. One of them was when I had travelled 20 kms ahead of my allotted destination and the crew did not even prompt me. On realising, I had to retrace my steps without a map and other resources, I got the warm hearted villagers to help me.
This season, the tasks I had to perform were against local competitors. Each day the tasks were revealed in the form of Hindi proverbs and rewards were given upon successful completion of the tasks.
One important thing I took back from the show is that people in smaller towns have bigger hearts. Luckily, during my journey, I met a few people who have been extremely warm and welcoming. Because of these generous people, I managed to stay at their homes, eat home food and survived in places without a single penny in my pocket.
Beg Borrow Steal airs Fridays, on Bindass at 10 pm
