BHUBANESWAR: Eminent writer Jitendra Narayan Dash, popularly known by pen name Dash Benhur, has been selected for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar-2014 by the Central Sahitya Akademi for his contribution to children’s literature.
A notification in this regard was issued by the Akademi on Friday. He has more than 100 books to his credit including short stories, poems, essays and features out of which, about 73 books are only for children. He will be honoured with a plaque and `50,000 at a special function in Bengaluru on November 14.
The selection was made by a three-member jury in Odia language comprising Archana Nayak, Sangamitra Mishra and Santanu Acharya.
This apart, the Akademi on Thursday announced annual Yuva Puraskar-2014 in 21 Indian languages. In Odia, Narendra Kumar Bhoi has been selected for his book of poetry ‘Pidaparba’. His name was nominated by a jury comprising Malabika Ray, Manoj Kumar Panda and Rajkishore Mishra.
He will also receive a plaque and cash award of `50,000 at a special function, the date and place of which have not been decided yet.
