Mahari Award Announced

City-based Odissi dancer Madhusmita Mohanty would be the recipient of the prestigious Mahari Award for the current year. The annual award, now in its 20th year, carries a citation, a memento and a cash award of `50,000.

The award has been instituted by Guru Pankaj Charan Odissi Research Foundation, Bhubaneswar to honour an acclaimed solo Odissi dancer as per the desire of late Guru Pankaj Charan Das, said Foundation director Sarat Das.

The award will be presented during Guru Pankaj Utsav at Rabindra Mandap on March 15, coinciding with the birthday of the late Guru.

Besides, four eminent artistes - Guru Bankim Sethy (New Delhi), Guru Prafulla Mangaraj (New Delhi), Sukla Bandopadhyay (Kolkata) and eminent classical singer Lata Ghosh - would be felicitated.
