Express News Service

BHUBANESWAR: A three-pronged strategy to reduce violence against women in Odisha was announced at second Nirbhaya Samaroh which was held at New Delhi on Friday.

Announcing the strategies, founder of Honour for Women National Campaign Manasi Pradhan said campaigners would build pressure on Odisha Government to cut down liquor licences to half its present number within a year and secure complete clampdown on illicit liquor trade.

"During the last three years since the inception of our campaign, we have found liquor to be a predominant factor in violence against women," said Pradhan.

The second strategy would be to set up fast track court in all districts to wrap up cases related to crime against women in a time bound manner.

The third strategy, said Pradhan, would be to include self-defence training for women in regular curriculum of school, college and universities.

The festival with a theme - 'tribute to the spirit of Indian women' was organised by leading organisation OYSS Woman.

Nirbhaya Samman and Nirbhaya Puraskar were conferred upon women achievers on the occasion.

The event was attended by over 700 representatives from different walks of life including a delegation from United Nations (UN) women and UN Information Centre.
