Move for Tehsil Office at Tangi-Choudwar

Express News Service

SALEPUR: The long pending demand for tehsil office at Tangi-Choudwar block headquarters is likely to materialise soon with the Revenue Divisional Commissioner, Central Division, Cuttack writing to Additional Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department on the issue.

As per reports, Tangi-Choudwar tehsil was created in 1982 after bifurcation from Cuttack Sadar with its headquarters at Tangi. After functioning for a few months from Tangi-Choudwar block, the tehsil office was shifted to a rented building at Jagatpur. In 1984, it was again shifted to its own building at Nimapur village in Jagatpur which comes under Cuttack Municipality Corporation limits.

As some areas of Tangi-Choudwar block are 35 to 40 kms from the tehsil office at Jagatpur, the people of those areas had demanded tehsil office at Tangi-Choudwar block headquarters.

Considering the demand of the people and better revenue administration, an additional tehsil office was opened at Tangi-Choudwar block headquarters in 2001. But for reason best known to the administration, the office was closed after functioning for a few months.

Since then, people of Safa, Garudagan, Nakhara, Salagan, Kanheipur, Harianta, Napanga, Bhatimunda, Govindpur, Jaripada, Uchapada and Kotasahi gram panchayats have been demanding a tehsil office at Tangi-Choudwar block headquarters. Several agitations and dharnas have been organised over the issue.

After the Revenue Department decided to open tehsil office at each block headquarters in 2008, tehsil offices have been functioning at each block headquarters of Cuttack district except Tangi-Choudwar.

Under the circumstances, Cuttack Collector had submitted a report to the Government. The RDC (CD), Cuttack had also accepted views of the Collector and submitted a report in to the Government on January 13, 2014.
