Police sub-Inspector suspended over drunken brawl

BHUBANESWAR: A Sub-Inspector of Khandagiri police station in the State Capital was placed under suspension on the charges of misbehaving and manhandling a bar owner on August 15. The suspension orders were issued by DCP Satyabrata Bhoi after preliminary inquiry established the complicity of the SI, Anup Tirkey in the incident.

Tirkey and his friends were having drinks at a bar in Patrapada area on Monday. The spat occurred while settling the bill which came out to be Rs 1500. Tirkey insisted the waiter to accept Rs 1200 and settle the bill.

When the waiter refused and informed the bar manager, the errant SI resorted to abuse. The bar owner Chitaranjan Patnaik had lodged a complaint with the Police in this connection.

An Additional DCP officer inquired into the incident following which the suspension orders were issued. A senior police official on conditions of anonymity said, Tirkey is not a disciplined officer and was involved in similar incidents on multiple occasion in the past.
