Chhatisgarh government has constructed 8 major & 34 medium irrigation projects on Mahanadi

BHUBANESHWAR: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik today said in the assembly that Chhattisgarh government has constructed eight major and 34 medium irrigation projects on the upper catchment of Mahanadi river.

In a written reply to a question from Kailash Chandra Kulesika (Cong), the chief minister said on the basis of information received from the union water resources ministry that another four major and medium projects each are under construction.

The chief minister said the Odisha government had sought information on Chhattisgarh government's master plan for Mahanadi river basin,  data on major, medium and minor irrigation projects and

detailed reports on six barrages which are being constructed on the upper catchment of Hirakud dam.

However, the Chhattisgarh government has adopted dilly dallying approach on submitting its master plan on Mahanadi river basin, Naveen said and added it has also not provided any information on minor irrigation projects. Besides, the Chhattisgarh government has also not provided project wise data on major, medium and minor irrigation projects, he said.

The chief minister said the Odisha government is implementing several major and medium irrigation projects in the lower catchment of Hirakud dam and tributaries of Mahanadi river. While work on Manjor, Lower Indra, Lower Suktel, Ret, Dahuragoth are in progress, Ong, Brutang, Upper Lanth, Kutulisinga, Tel Integrated, Khadga, Utei Raul, Jira, Upper Udanti, Ranjor, Ahirajor, Lakshmipathar Nal, Bramhani Pad and Salki projects are in survey and investigation stage, he said.
