BHUBANESWAR: The MCL on Friday stated that NTPC-Kaniha, which is facing coal crisis, could continue drawing coal from Ib Coalfields. It also expects Railways to supply at least two rakes per day from Ib Coalfields to build up sufficient stock.

While the average annual contracted quantity of NTPC-Kaniha for 2016-17 is 17.035 million tonne, the total dispatch from MCL till March 30 was 16.87 million tonne. ‘‘The MCL has been allocating raw coal from Ib Field to augment the dispatch and build up comfortable stock position at NTPC-Kaniha,’’ a release stated.

However, against allocation of around 720 rakes from Ib Coalfields, NTPC-Kaniha was programmed for 401 rakes, of which 117 have been dispatched so far. Meanwhile, the sub-group committee of Ministry of Coal has advised to supply additional rake from Ib fields as coal supply from Kaniha/Lingaraj mines is not sufficient to meet the requirement.
