PURI: A Wanted criminal, Sanjay Behera alias Para, was arrested following an encounter with Puri Police on Sunday. He is wanted in 15 criminal cases that are lodged in various police stations in the city.
The encounter took place near Biragobindpur along Puri-Bhubaneswar NH. On a tip off that Sanjay was on his way to Bhubaneswar on a motorcycle, a police team intercepted him near Biragobindpur. Seeing the cops, he opened fire at them and police retaliated.A bullet hit Sanjay’s right leg and when he fell down, police arrested him. He has been admitted to the SCB Medical at Cuttack.
Security beefed up
Security was beefed up at Baba Gurmit Ram Rahim ashram at Beleswarpatana under Marine Police limits after the Dera sect chief Ram Rahim Singh was convicted by a CBI court in a rape case. Villagers of Beleswarpatna under Puri Sadar police limits had on Friday staged a dharna in front of ashram along Puri-Konark road.Apprehending law and order problem, police deployment near the ashram was increased on Monday. The ashram, spread over three acres, was established about two decades ago.
