JAGATSINGHPUR: Thanks to Aadhaar, a missing child has been united with his family members by the district administration. As per reports, Paradip Lock Police had rescued a mentally challenged child from the zero point of Paradip-Chandikhol National Highway while he was wandering alone in December, 2016. He was identified as 12-year-old Rajendra Kumar. The kid was handed over to Child Welfare Committee which rehabilitated him in orphanage Ashra in Naugaon.

Later, though the district child protection unit and police published advertisement about the missing child, no one turned up to claim Rajendra. The child protection unit then sought the intervention of district Aadhaar centre which found that Rajendra’s biometric details matched with that of Suresh Kumar and Manju Devi from Gandhi Road within Dhansur police limits in Jharkhand. It was also found that Rajendra’s father Suresh and mother Manju were coming to Paradip in search of job when their son went missing.

Child Protection Officer Udayanath Swain said, “On verification, we came to know that Rajendra’s fingerprints matched with the couple. After getting reunited with her son, Manju thanked the district administration and local police. “We had lost hope of finding our son. But thanks to Aadhaar, we were able to get back Rajendra,”she said.Meanwhile, Collector Yamini Sarangi provided `10,000 to Rajendra’s parents towards transporting and treatment on Friday.
