Buguda bank heist: Prime accused held

The Commissionerate of Police on Tuesday arrested the prime accused in a bank dacoity which took place in Buguda of Ganjam district in May this year.

BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate of Police on Tuesday arrested the prime accused in a bank dacoity which took place in Buguda of Ganjam district in May this year.

The accused, Sahadev Barik alias Naga, was rounded up by Nayapalli police at Salia Sahi here on wee hours of the day. He had taken refuge in the City after robbing Utkal Gramya Bank.
On being tipped off about Naga, the cops swooped down on a thatched house in Salia Sahi where the accused had taken shelter. Naga was arrested and handed over to Buguda police which produced him in the local SDJM court. He has been sent in judicial custody.

Eight accused including Naga have been arrested in the bank dacoity case, Buguda IIC Rama Chandra Biswal said.On May 24, six masked miscreants armed with country bombs and guns looted Manitara branch of Utkal Gramya Bank in Buduga block.

The miscreants had decamped with cash of `1 lakh and gold ornaments worth `2 lakh from the bank.
