BHUBANESWAR: BJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Sulata Deo allegedly received rape and murder threat from a social media user on Sunday over her Facebook post demanding the state government’s response on the leak of Balanga victim’s videographed statement, which went viral earlier in the day.

In the video, the girl can be heard mentioning that three unidentified youths abducted and set her on fire. Just a few minutes after Deo posted the message on Facebook, a social media user said that she should be raped and murdered. She flagged the matter on her X handle and tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home minister Amit Shah, BJP president JP Nadda, Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, DGP YB Khurania among others.

She also attached the screenshots of the threats issued by the accused person.

“I demanded a response from the state government over the issue. In return, a social media user threatened to rape and murder me. If a woman MP can be threatened in such a manner, imagine how safe are other women in the state,” Deo told The New Indian Express.

Deo also said that she will raise the matter during the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament.

“If the police do not take suo motu cognizance of the matter, then I will lodge a complaint with them in this regard,” she added.
