Keonjhar police rescue kidnapped youth within hours, arrest two accused with criminal records

Asish Kumar Mahanta traced using CCTV and mobile location; vehicle and phone recovered, investigation continues

KEONJHAR: In a swift action, Keonjhar Town police rescued a youth within hours after he was reportedly kidnapped from Naranpur area on Tuesday.

Police said two criminals were also arrested for kidnapping Asish Kumar Mahanta (21) of Naranpur. The accused are Kashyap Kumar Sahoo (42) and Jagat Naik (40).

Asish’s mother Jayanti Mahanta lodged a complaint with police alleging that the two persons dragged her son into a car and sped away from Naranpur. Basing on the complaint, police registered a case and launched a search.

After collecting CCTV footage, police analysed the victim’s mobile phone location and tracked the movement of the suspected vehicle. Acting on technical leads, the hideout of the accused persons was traced. Subsequently, a raid was conducted and the victim rescued from the clutches of the accused duo.

Keonjhar Town IIC Srikanta Sahu said the car used in the crime was seized. The victim’s mobile phone was also recovered from the accused’s possession. Both Kashyap and Jagat have criminal antecedents and are involved in many cases.
