BHUBANESWAR: Tata Power Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL) has adopted DigiPIN, a first-of-its-kind next-generation digital addressing system in the country.

Developed by the department of Posts in collaboration with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and IIT-Hyderabad, DigiPIN replaces conventional latitude-longitude coordinates with a simplified 10-character alphanumeric code. The system enables precise and standardised location identification, even in low-connectivity areas, enhancing accessibility and interoperability.

The initiative covers TPCODL’s entire operational area of 29,354 sq km, assigning unique DigiPINs to every grid. Over 93,000 transformers, 1,500 ring main units and 19 lakh poles have been digitally mapped.

TPCODL CEO Arvind Singh said, “DigiPIN strengthens our digital backbone and enables data-driven decision-making to enhance reliability and consumer experience,” he noted.
