BHUBANESWAR: Citizens visiting hotels, multiplexes, malls, private hospitals and other public establishments can now access information on their fire safety certificates, with just a click on their mobile phones.
The Odisha Fire and Emergency Service has planned to roll out a mobile application to share information in this regard, which will be integrated with its AI Agnisathi chatbot.
In the first phase, citizens can get information of over 300 establishments like hotels, multiplexes, malls and private hospitals in the state capital. The facility will subsequently be extended to all other major cities of the state.
The initiative aims to inform citizens visiting such establishments on whether they possess valid fire safety certificate, which is provided by the directorate only when they have the provision of adequate equipment.
The Odisha Fire Service will also launch a software and database comprising details of all major buildings and establishments across the state that require fire safety certificates. Awareness will be also be created on AI chatbot Agnisathi and Agnishamaseva portal so that applicants can understand the procedure to obtain fire safety certificates.
This apart, the directorate has also planned to launch a special drive, ‘Surakhsit Odisha-Vikshit Odisha’, across the state from September 15 to October 15 to check which establishment does not possess a valid fire safety certificate.
Fire Service DG Sudhanshu Sarangi said the objective behind organising the drive is that the facilities having fire safety certificates have adequate equipment and the ones without NOCs are mostly witnessing fire accidents.
During the campaign, checking will be conducted on which building has a valid fire NOC, he said. “The department has been regularly inspecting various establishments and high-rise apartments. So far in 2026, more than 800 notices have already been issued to occupiers for non-compliance with fire safety rules,” Sarangi added.
Fire Service officials said the special drive will be organised in the wake of recent fire incidents in establishments that did not possess valid fire safety certificates. They emphasised that Vikshit Odisha must go hand-in-hand with Surakhsit Odisha when it comes to preventing fire mishaps.
According to Odisha Fire Prevention and Fire Safety (Amendment) Rules, 2019, high-risk premises are required to obtain fire safety certificates. These include aerodromes and airports, auditoriums and convention halls where 50 or more people can gather, business or office buildings of certain height/floor area and cinema halls.
The other facilities are clinical establishments, educational buildings, hazardous substance storage places, factories and industries, hotels and guest houses, high-rise residential buildings, godowns, underground structures, multiplexes, shopping malls and other high-risk occupancies.
