COIMBATORE: Mimicry artiste Kovai Ramesh alias Ramesh Kumar, who is known to leave his audience in fits of laughter, had them in tears on Saturday, for, he died in a road accident on his 40th birthday. Coincidentally, it was the birthday of driver Karthikeyan who also died in the fatal accident.

Kovai Ramesh rose to dizzy heights from a humble beginning as a mimicry artiste performing at stage shows. His acquaintance with Kovai Guna and Kovai Ashok helped him become part of the talent show 'Kalakkapovadhu Yaaru' telecast by Vijay TV in 2005. Since then there was no looking back for this talented artiste who captivated the viewers by dressing in female attire and imitating yesteryear heroines’ voices.

An alumnus of CSI Higher Secondary School, Ramesh did costume designing course. After learning the nuances of the trade at a men’s wear showroom, he had set up a shop at Ramanathapuram. Director Rajkumar said that it was a tragic end to an artiste who was a darling of the masses. Nakeeran Gopal who flew to Coimbatore took part in a procession from the Oppanakkara Street, where Ramesh body was kept to Chokkampudur Corporation cremation ground. Ramesh’s younger brother Sathish said that they have planned to hold a condolence meeting next week.
