CHENNAI: Over 1,13,295 workers of the State-owned Transport Corporations will be benefited as the government has announced an increase ranging between Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,543 in their salaries.

A decision was made at the 11th wage revision talks between the elected representatives of the transport corporation and authorities, said Minister for Transport K N Nehru, who chaired the meeting held at the Institute of Road Transport at Taramani here on Wednesday.

He said that the transport corporations would require Rs 224 crore for the purpose between September 2010 and March 2011.

When questioned about the demand from the cross spectrum of workers that their salary must be revised on the lines of electricity board employees, he said, it has been decided to give promotion for several thousand employees in transport corporations.

"In that case their pay scale structure ill be similar to what the employees have sought for," he claimed.
