CHENNAI: P K Sekar Babu, who was removed as the AIADMK’s North Chennai District secretary recently by party general secretary J Jayalalithaa, may be out the party itself if the proceedings of the meeting held here on Wednesday is anything to go by.

Former Minister D Jayakumar, who replaced Babu, was particularly harsh in his address on his predecessor. He said betrayers and those who acted against party principles had no place in the party. A local functionary went to the extent of saying “some people were showing “cardboard knives” (attai katthi) to enforce their diktat on cadre and now were out of the party. Babu, who held the post for nearly eight years, represents R K Nagar in the present State Assembly. He did not turn up. Jayakumar said a special camp would be organised to ensure the party’s voters figured in the electoral rolls. Nainar Nagendran, former Industries Minister and State secretary of Jayalalithaa Paeravai, said that party would provide aid to nearly 25,000 people in every constituency in North Chennai. MLA O Panneerselvam, and party presidium chairman D Madusoodanan were also present.
