PUDUCHERRY: The counselling for CENTAC (engineering) for Puducherry students, under the special category, commenced today.
A total of 2,808 seats are up for grabs in engineering in government and self-financing colleges for students from the Union Territory under CENTAC.
There are 535 seats in the two government engineering colleges - 382 in Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) and 153 in Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Technology (PKIT), Karaikal. In addition, there are 2,273 seats in 11 self-financing colleges in the UT.
On Wednesday, under the special categories of sports, physically handicapped, ex-servicemen and freedom fighter, 309 seats were taken up for counselling.
While the 28 seats under the sports quota were filled, seats in other categories remained vacant for want of candidates. Under the physically handicapped quota, only seven seats were filled out of 84 seats.
However, most of the 84 seats under the ex-servicemen category and113 seats under the freedom fighter category have been filled up, sources in CENTAC said.
Counselling for general and other categories would begin on Thursday and continue till August 4.
