VELLORE: The Vellore unit of the Tamizhaga Cable TV operators welfare association has hailed the announcement of the State government in the Assembly on Friday to nationalise the Cable TV operations.

G Damodharan, district president of the association, who is also the joint secretary of the state unit, while welcoming the government’s move, urged the Chief Minister to constitute an advisory committee with the representation of the cable TV operators at the State and the district levels while implementing the scheme.

“Even during the DMK regime, we had expected a change in the policy of handling the Cable TV operations when Arasu Cable Corporation was launched,” he said, adding that the promises made by the then CM were left unfulfilled.

He said the MSOs should be taken over by the government and the existing control rooms should be revived by digitalising the service. It would help provide more value-added products

The customers should be given free digital set top box. This would also help revive many of Tamil channels.
