PUDUCHERRY: Three convicts, who were lodged in the Kalapet Cenral Prison here, were shifted to the Yanam jail on Saturday night.

The convicts were identified as ‘Murder’ Manigandan, Shenbaga Sreekumar and Karna.

‘Murder’ Manigandan, said to be a notorious history-sheeter, was serving a life sentence.

Manigandan was convicted of plotting the murder of ‘Kandasamy, a political functionary, at Uppalam in September.

An inquiry with the accused in the case revealed that Manigandan planned the murder from prison using a high frequency mobile phone, which could not be detected by the jamming devices set up by the jail authorities.

Overcrowding and security concerns were reportedly cited as the reasons for the shifting of the three convicts.
