Jaya changes party HQ office-bearers

A day ahead of the party’s executive committee meeting, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Sunday effected some changes in the office-bearers of the party headquarters.

In what is seen as a promotion for Higher Education Minister P Palaniappan in the party ranks, the AIADMK supremo appointed him the new headquarters secretary.  Former Minister K A Sengottaiyan, who was holding this post for a long time, was dropped from that post on July 18. Palaniappan hitherto has been holding the post of secretary of Jayalalithaa Peravai’s Dharmapuri district unit.

Social Welfare Minister B Valarmathi has been appointed secretary of the party’s literary wing. Hitherto, Valarmathi has been the organising secretary of the party. On April 2, Vaigai Selvan, who was the secretary of the literary wing, was appointed secretary of the party’s youth brigade.

Former Housing Minister AK Selvaraj will be the new organising secretary of the AIADMK.  Hitherto, he has been the presidium chairman of the Coimbatore urban district unit. K Thangamuthu of Thanjavur south district has been appointed  new secretary of the party’s farmers wing.

The last meeting of the party’s executive committee was held on December 30, 2011.  Already, Jayalalithaa has asked all ministers, district secretaries, headquarters office-bearers, MPs and MLAs to participate in the meeting without fail. The meeting is expected to discuss the recent political developments and take important decisions.
