CHENNAI: DMK will strive hard to achieve the goal of “Dravidian country for Dravidians,” party chief M Karunanidhi said here on Monday. Addressing a meeting to mark the beginning of the Dravidian Movement’s centenary, Karunanidhi said the movement will continue to flourish in Tamil Nadu despite several threats being faced by it.
“Today, we are being intimidated from many sides. Unfazed by all these threats, we will follow the footsteps of Periyar and Anna,” Karunanidhi said.
“By race, we are Dravidians and the term Dravida can be used to denote Tamils. It can be corroborated with adequate evidence as noted by Anna in an editorial written in ‘Dravida Nadu’, a magazine in 1942,” he said.
The DMK leader also recalled that he took part in anti-Hindi protests at the
age of 13. Karunanidhi claimed the present rulers of the state might even try to “revert the Semmozhi
status”.
Referring to his possible successor in DMK, Karunanidhi noted that “there is an entire party family which has more Karunanidhis,” who will assume the leadership to take the movement forward.
“Dravidians have the tradition of defeating the suppressers and it will be repeated too,” he said.
Karunanidhi tried to prove the alleged Brahmin upper hand in the state with
statistics.
Dwelling more upon the topic, the DMK leader said that the majority of the educated were from the dominant caste.
