State relief for Nilam victims soon

Revenue minister Thoppu N D Venkatachalam said that the state government had started taking stock of crop damage caused by cyclone Nilam to provide relief funds to the affected farmers at the earliest.

Fixing the relief amount at Rs 10,000 per hectare for paddy and Rs 7,500 per hectare for banana and other crops, the Chief Minister had instructed the ministry to survey the worst-affected areas to provide relief funds quickly, said the minister after inspecting a damaged banana plantation in Melakuppam panchayat on Monday. He said that the CM had taken expeditious steps to restore normalcy within a day after the cyclone hit the state.
