Revisit history at National Archives expo

Here’s a chance for history enthusiasts to see a copy of the Queen’s Proclamation of November, 1858, in which she took upon herself the government of British territories in India. The document, among many others, is on display at an exhibition at the National Archives of India Record Centre here.

The week-long exhibition titled “Beyond the Frame: India in Britain, 1858-1950” was inaugurated by Minister of Art and Culture T Thiagarajan here on Friday as part of the Archives Week celebrations. MLA M Vaithianathan and archivist in-charge M Murugesan were also present at the inauguration.

The exhibits include a rare photo of Mahatma Gandhi and Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya at the second round table conference, the proclamation of Provisional Government of Azad Hind by the INA, a rare picture of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, letters written by Dadabhai Naoroji and Rabindranath Tagore, among others.

The exhibition is being organised at the National Archives building in Jeevanadapuram, Lawspet, and is open to the public from 10 am to 7 pm till September 20.
