Villagers thrash burglar after tying him to pole

Residents of SR Kandigai village in Arakkonam taluk caught a 30-year-old habitual offender when he attempted to burgle a house during the early hours of Wednesday. The buglar was tied to a pole and thrashed for nearly two hours before being handed over to the police.

Police attached to Arakkonam taluk station, on information, rushed to the village and rescued the burglar and took him for inquiry.

Police department sources said, Sekar (30), a history-sheeter and resident of Aanaimallur village, was caught by the villagers of SR Kandigai when he was trying to  make away with the valuables from a farmer’s house in the village.

However, the inmates of the house on spotting the intruder raised an alarm. The villagers woke up and gathered outside in large numbers.On seeing the crowd, Sekar, who tried to speed away on a stolen motorbike, abandoned the two-wheeler and took to his heels and disappeared in the dark.However, the villagers searched for him on every street and house, while groups guarded exit points of the village. Sekar, who was hiding on the terrace of a house for nearly 30 minutes, was caught when he made a bid to escape.

The villagers overpowered him and tied him to a pole. They thrashed him for nearly an hour, police said, quoting the villagers.Later, Sekar was handed over to the police. Police said Sekar had been involved in several two-wheeler thefts, house break-ins and robbery cases.

Transgender caught

On Tuesday morning, a 16-year-old transgender was caught by villagers attempting to steal a cow from Kagithapattarai, in Vellore. The youth was tied to a pole and beaten up before being handed over to police. Later, the youth was let off as no complaint was filed.
