The Zamindar of Pichavaram, Chidambaranatha Soorappa Chozhanar, died at the age of 63 here on Monday. He was the heir of the Chola dynasty. Chidambaranatha Soorappa Chozhanar had gone for his morning walk on Monday in Keezharatha Veethi here, when he suddenly fainted and fell down on the road. He was taken to a private hospital where he died.
The last rites were held at Chellappanpettai near Panthanallur in Thanjavur district on Monday evening.
He was living in Chidambaram with his wife Santhi Devi, of Udayarpalayam Zamin, two sons Chakravarthi, Mannarmannan and one daughter Ishwarya. He had studied MA in Political Science. He had later taken up agriculture as being a descendant of the Chola dynasty they didn’t work under anyone.
The Pichavaram Zamin family was considered the descendants of Chola emperors. They safeguarded the key of the Nataraja temple, about hundred years ago. During that time, the Dikshitars collected the key of the temple from the zamin family every morning and would return it to them at night. Chidambaranatha Soorappa Chozhanar was anointed in 1978 at Nataraja temple in Chidambaram.
PMK condoles Death
PMK founder S Ramadoss has expressed grief over the death of Chidambaranatha Soorappa Chozhanar, considered to be a descendant of the Chozha Dynasty. Ramadoss said Chozhanar’s death was a loss not only to his family, but to the entire Vanniyar community.
