Rapist killer gets 21 years in jail

A fast track court on Thursday sentenced a man to 21 years of imprisonment for raping and murdering a college girl.

The 18-year-old victim from Kayaloorani village near Thoothukudi was a second year B Com student of the Bishop Caldwell College here. She went missing on December 18, 2010 after she stepped out of her house. Following a futile search, her father Ramasubbu lodged a complaint at the SIPCOT Police Station. Two days later, her body was found floating in a small pond in Kayaloorani. Her clothes were tornp. Following an investigation, the SIPCOT Police registered a case and later arrested 22-year-old Madasamy, a local resident, on rape and murder charges. Justice Krishnavalli sentenced Madasamy to 21 years as imprisonment and also imposed a fine of `1,000 on him.  This included 14 years for murder and seven years for rape.

Women’s groups laud sentence

Women organisations appreciated the swift conclusion of trial, and the punishment for the accused in the rape and murder case. They also sought that all cases be concluded in such an expeditious manner.
