TU teachers call off boycott stir

The Thiruvalluvar University Co-ordination Council, consisting of Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers Association (TNGCTA) and Association of University Teachers (AUT), has called off their planned boycott following an agreement between the teachers’ bodies and the university on Monday.

Professor S Kumar, chairman of the TUCC said after a request from the Vice- chancellor of the university, Dr P Gunasekaran, for a discussion, the protest was postponed. On Monday, office bearers of the AUT and TNGCTA held talks with the university officials with the  Vice-chancellor and an agreement was also signed by both parties.

As per the agreement, it was agreed to enhance the remuneration for all examination and paper valuation-related works to mutually accepted terms with the concurrence of the university Syndicate to be held this month.

It was also agreed that the enhanced remuneration, which would be effected from April 2013, would be disbursed a day after the Syndicate meet. Those who received remunerations at pre-revised rates would be paid the difference by way of cheque at the earliest.

Professor S Kumar said that based on the agreement reached on Monday, the teachers’ bodies had decided to call off the proposed boycott.

The valuation of the UG and PG papers would commence from June 11 and 13 respectively, he added.
