2 teachers arrested for ‘lewd’ talk

Two teachers of a government school at Kulamangalam, who allegedly harassed girl students, were arrested by the Rural police on Friday.

The teachers, working at the Government Higher Secondary School, Kulamangalam, Terante (50) of Bama Nagar and Vijaya Kumar (37) of Athikulam, were arrested after a complaint was lodged by All India Democratic Women Association district secretary S K Ponnuthai, who alleged that the duo sexually harassed three girl students during class hours.

Acting on the complaint, DSP V Balakrishnan and Samayanallur police station inspector A Kannan conducted an inquiry with the students.

After cross-examining various witnesses police confirmed that the two teachers had misbehaved with the students.

The two teachers had cornered the three Class VII girls during a class and made obscene comments about them, inspector Kannan said. They also addressed the girls in vulgar language.
