DMK fields V Maran for Yercaud bypoll

The DMK became the first major party to announce its candidate for the upcoming bypoll to the Yercaud (ST) Assembly constituency.

The DMK became the first major party to announce its candidate for the upcoming bypoll to the Yercaud (ST) Assembly constituency. Party leader M Karunanidhi announced that the party has selected V Maran as its candidate, from 42 applicants.

Maran was selected after  holding interviews with the applicants at the party headquarters on Friday morning. Karunanidhi, DMK treasurer MK Stalin, party deputy general secretaries Durai Murugan and VP Duraisamy and the party’s Salem district inharge SR Sivalingam took part in the interviews.

“After the interview, the party decided to field V Maran, MBA, as the candidate in the byelection,” Karunanidhi told reporters.
