A grieving father, reeling from the loss of his 11-year-old son 40 days ago, committed suicide at his home on Friday.

Frances Xavier, a resident of Kerala, staying at P N Palayam had lost his elder son in September when the boy was living with his grandmother in Kerala. The boy, who was studying in the sixth grade, is said to have drowned while bathing in a lake with his friends. Frances is said to have been depressed after the death and had sent his wife, Jebamalai Mary and daughter to Kerala to take part in the 40th day prayer service for his son.

He had told them that he would join them in a couple of days. However, after his wife and daughter left for Kerala, Xavier is said to have hung himself with his wife’s saree on Friday.

His relatives, who were staying in the area, came to his home after being unable to reach him over phone. They found his body hanging from the ceiling and informed the Race Course police, who sent the body to the CMCH where an autopsy is set to be conducted.
