Rowdy held for issuing threat

A rowdy, involved in a number of cases, was arrested by Muthialpet Police here on Sunday after he allegedly threatened a contractor demanding more donation for installing idols on the occasion of Vinayaga Chaturthi.

A rowdy, involved in a number of cases, was arrested by Muthialpet Police here on Sunday after he allegedly threatened a contractor demanding more donation for installing idols on the occasion of Vinayaga Chaturthi.

Police said Dina (23),along with his friends, approached T Tyagi, a north Indian contractor involved in construction work staying in Sengeniamman Veethi near Vazhaikulam. Tyagi had given him donation for Vinayaga Chaturthi, which Dina refused to accept and demanded more. He threatened the contractor with dire consequences if he didn’t give the money. Following this, the contractor made a complaint with the police and Dina was arrested.

Meanwhile, an accused in rowdy Jegan murder case was arrested here on Saturday.

David (21), who was found moving suspiciously near the Cuddalore Road was questioned by the police. When he gave unsastisfactory answers, they grew suspicious. Meanwhile, they found a knife in David’s posession and arrested him.

It should be noted that police are keeping vigil on anti-social elements after the recent extortion threats and attack on a bakery owner, a few days ago.

Meanwhile, one more person was arrested on Sunday in connection with the attack on a fast food shop near new bus stand a couple of days ago.

Shankar, a resident of Periyar Nagar, who was absconding after the attack, was arrested by the Orleanpet Police. Earlier, police had arrested two persons involved in the attack. Police said that Shankar allegedly took away the cash box from the fast food shop.

Held on Wife’s Plaint

A 35-year-old man was arrested on assault charges following a complaint by his wife on Sunday. Gajendran, a resident of Ariyankuppam area, had quarreled and allegedly beaten up his wife Lakshmi (23) on Saturday night. Following a complaint from Lakshmi, Gajendra was arrested.
