A day after Mayor Saidai S Duraisamy charged that close to Rs 417 crore of the Chennai Corporation’s funds remained unaccounted by the previous DMK rule, former Mayor M Subramanian on Sunday challenged Duraisamy for a public debate on the matter. In a strongly worded statement from the DMK headquarters, Subramanian said, his party was prepared to face any legal action taken by Duraisamy on him or DMK treasurer MK Stalin, who was the Local Administration Minister.
Speaking at Corporation Council meeting on Saturday, Duraisamy had said a report revealed that Rs 292.31 crore remained unaccounted for during the Mayoral tenure of Stalin, and that an amount of Rs 125 crore was unaccounted in Subramanian’s tenure.
Duraisamy had announced that a panel would be formed to probe possible irregularities, and that legal action would be taken in case the allegations were found to be true. “Duraisamy has been repeatedly making the allegation. It is his duty to clarify the meaning of his statement including who is responsible for the lapses and what role the Mayor had,” said Subramanian.
