Five nominations were received on Tuesday for the general elections.

The AIADMK candidate for Vellore constituency B Senguttuvan (57) filed his papers with the Returning officer-cum-Collector R Nanthagopal, while the AIADMK candidate for Arakkonam constituency G Hari (53) filed his papers with the Returning officer (District Revenue officer) K Balaraman.

The two alternative candidates from the AIADMK also filed their nominations. Usharani (47), wife of G Hari (the candidate for Arakkonam) filed her nomination while R Balasubramani, son of Radhakrishnan, filed the nomination. An independent candidate ‘Manithan’ also filed his papers on Tuesday. Manithan, known for his habit of walking backwards, has been regular in filing nominations, for Assembly or LS elections. A native of Tirupattur, 47-year-old Manithan filed his nomination for Vellore constituency without paying the deposit money. He also filed nomination for Tiruvannamalai constituency also (his village Aravaram comes under Tiruvannamalai constituency) on Saturday. 

Manithan said that he had taken a vow that he would walk normally after winning the Presidential election. He added that the deposit amount was high and he could not afford it.
