CM Unveils New Buildings for CT Department

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated `22.68 crore-worth office buildings for the Commercial Taxes (CT) Department. The new Integrated Commercial Taxes Complex that was constructed in Salem at a cost of `9.81 crore and eight other office buildings across the State have been opened for use by the CT Department.

Jayalalithaa inaugurated the buildings through video conferencing, at a function held at the Secretariat on June 11. The buildings will bring together under one roof various commercial tax offices, which have hitherto been functioning out of rented spaces across Salem.

The new complex is located on a 1.45 acre plot near the Government Guest House in Hastampatti, has a floor area of 66,874 sq ft. Among the facilities at the complex are an air-conditioned 150-seater conference hall, a computer training centre for use by officials, a large waiting hall, ATM, lift, ramp and parking lot.

Jayalalithaa also inaugurated integrated commercial tax buildings in Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram and Tiruchy, costing `1.44 crore, `2.86 crore and `2.5 crore,  respectively. She also inaugurated commercial tax office buildings at Panrutti, Mayiladuthurai and Erode, which were built at a cost of `1.5 crore, `2.03 crore and `1.55 crore respectively. Also opened were offices at Nannilam, Lalgudi and Kovilpatti, built at costs of `35 lakh, `19 lakh and `25 lakh respectively, and a `20-lakh audit post in Tiruvallur.

Commercial taxes and registration minister MC Sampath, chief secretary Mohan Verghese Chunkath, government advisor Sheela Balakrishnan, commercial taxes and registration secretary SK Prabhakar and commercial taxes commissioner G Rajaraman were among those present at the function.
