PUDUCHERRY: The School Education Department has decided to hold supplementary examination for Class 12 students of government and private schools, who had failed in the annual examination, said Director of School Education E Vallavan.

The  School Education Department reviewed the performance of Class 12 students after V Balasubramanian of the Pondicherry Students and Parents Welfare Association gave a representation to the director seeking a supplementary examination.

After the review, the Department found that around 1,068 out of the 12,500 students from the government schools had failed.

Another 60 students from private schools had also failed. This is lower than the 25 per cent of students needed to merit the conduct of  supplementary examinations. Even so the government decided to give the students another chance, Vallavan said.
