CHENNAI: DMK Treasurer and party president M Karunanidhi's son M K Stalin today asserted that his father would be the Chief Minister if his party was voted back to power in 2016 and hit out at Chief Minister O Panneerselvam for his comment that a 'cold war' was on between them.
"I am always bound by the party chief (Karunanidhi) as a party worker. As a son I am bound by my father," Stalin said in a statement here today.
Reacting to Stalin's demand that the Assembly should be convened to discuss important issues, including the death sentence to five fishermen by a Colombo court, Panneerselvam said, "we know when to convene the assembly."
He also had said that "a cold war between the father and son (Karunanidhi and Stalin) was a common knowledge."
Hitting out at Panneerselvam for the remarks, Stalin quoting a Tamil proverb said if the Chief Minister tried to "create confusion it would only make him fall a prey to his own designs."
The DMK leader also defended his demand for convening a session of the assembly.
Increase in the price of milk by Rs.10, proposed hike in electricity tariff are the other issues that Stalin had flagged as key issues that needed to be debated in the Assembly.
