12 Karate Trainees Hurt as Van Topples

PUDUCHERRY: A total of 11 karate trainees, including four girls and the driver were injured when a van in which they were travelling capsized at Bahour near here on Sunday.

According to Bahour police, the trainees were travelling to Puducherry to take part in a State-level karate competition. When, the van reached Thookkupalam near Bahour, driver  Balachandran, lost control and the van overturned into an open field.

One of the girls, Tamilchelvi, suffered a fractured clavicle bone and was admitted to a hospital. Others were treated as outpatients in a private medical college hospital and a government hospital. The driver was also injured.

Police said the trainees were in the age group of 13 to 15 and were studying in different schools in Bahour and Manamedu areas.

Bus Gutted in Fire

A parked bus belonging to a private engineering college was gutted in a fire at Lawspet near here on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the bus owned by  Manakkula Vinayagar Engineering College caught fire and was gutted before fire tenders from Gorimedu reached the spot and doused the flames.

Traffic on East Coast Road was held up for about fifteen minutes. It was suspected that the bus might have been set on fire by miscreants. A case has been registered.
